Do Gluten Free Sausage Balls Or Gluten Full Taste Different ?
Gluten Free Sausage Balls is a recipe for gluten free and gluten full households. Tara and I are a house divided on gluten. I can have it. Tara cannot. This recipe is GREAT for both. I really like them without gluten and think that most people aren’t able to tell the difference. This makes it an easy appetizer option when we’re going to a gathering. I know it’s something Tara can safely eat and that everyone enjoys.

How To Make Keto Sausage Balls?
If you’re on the Keto Diet and enjoy sausage balls use Almond Flour or Coconut Flour instead of a gluten free baking mix when making this recipe.
I would start by reducing the flour amount to a cup when using either of these options instead of the 1 ¼ cup. After making the recipe, adjust the flour amount as needed.
How Do I Make the Recipe if my Family Eats Gluten?
If you’re family is not on a gluten free diet replace the Gluten Free Bisquick with regular Bisquick. All of the other ingredients in the recipe are gluten free.
How To Fix Sausage Balls That Are Dry
These dry sausage balls are awesome…….said NO ONE EVER. Yes, some recipes are dried out. You want them tender with some chew, not breaking up and crumbling as you bite into them. The cream cheese in the recipe helps with this. It adds extra moisture throughout the sausage.
Gluten Free Sausage Ball Variations
If you’ve read my other recipes like Weight Watchers Cabbage Soup or Egg Salad, you know that I like being able to make easy, small changes and tweaks to recipes. This recipe is no different. Here are some easy add-ins and swaps for making this you own.
Spice Add-Ins
- Garlic Powder – Start with ½ teaspoon and adjust the amount as needed to your own taste.
- Onion Powder – As with the Garlic Powder, start with a ½ teaspoon and adjust the amount.
- Paprika or Smoked Paprika – Start with ½ teaspoon and adjust as needed.
- Dried Parsley – Add ½ teaspoon of Dried Parsley or 1 tsp of chopped Fresh Parsley for a little color.
- Salt – You’ll get some salt from the sausage and cheese but add a pinch or two more if needed.
- Pepper – I am a friend of black pepper and use it constantly. Add a pinch or two if you are too.
- Cayenne – Do you like a little heat? Add ⅛-½ teaspoon of cayenne to the mix, depending on how hot your want it.
Other Add-Ins
- Baking Powder – Baking Powder gives a little extra lift to your sausage balls. I do not use it in my recipe. You may find that your sausage balls need a little boost when using heavier flours like almond flour. If you decide to use baking powder in your recipe, start with 1 teaspoon.
- Eggs – Eggs are a binding agent. I do not use eggs in my recipe because I don’t feel the recipe needs the ingredient. If you decide to add an egg to your sausage ball add one beaten egg to the ingredients.
Sausage Ball Making Tips
- Bring your ingredients (especially the cream cheese) to room temperature before preparing the sausage balls. Room temperature ingredients mix together more easily.
- Wetting your hands with some water helps with rolling the sausage mixture into balls more easily.
- A cookie scoop makes even sized sausage balls.
- Parchment Paper or Aluminum Foil covered baking sheets sprayed with cooking spray allows for easy clean up and keeps the sausage balls from sticking to the sheet pans
- They’re freezable – Mix and form the sausage balls. Freeze uncooked on a cookie sheet until frozen. Place in a freezer bag until needed. Cook, as directed, from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
That was a ton of info but now you have an easy, customizable gluten free sausage ball recipe for your next party or get together. I’ve found people will eat these up anytime of the year and don’t care if it’s gluten free or gluten full. Have fun with this recipe and share it with your friends.
