Homemade Magic Shell
Homemade Magic Shell is a fun topping ice cream. This copycat recipe is easy to make and uses just two ingredients!

- 1 ¼ Cup Chocolate Chips
- 3-4 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
Put chocolate chips and 3 Tablespoons coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl.
Microwave on high in 20-30 second intervals mixing after each interval. It will take 1 ½-2 minutes total.
The chocolate should be thin enough to drizzle over ice cream. Add additional Tablespoon of coconut oil if the chocolate if needed.
Drizzle over ice cream. Magic Shell will harden over ice cream in 30-60 seconds.
Store leftovers at room temperature in a microwave safe container.
- If the Magic Shell Hardens While Storing - Reheat in the microwave using 20 second intervals, stirring after each interval until melted.
- Make Dairy Free Magic Shell – The Enjoy Life Brand of Chocolate Chips is dairy free.
- Scale the Recipe Up or Down – Adjust the chocolate chips and coconut oil to make more or less Magic Shell. It’s about 3 Tablespoons per cup of chocolate chips.
- Try Other Oils – Try Vegetable Oil or Butter if you don’t have coconut oil. I have not tried these oils but experimenting with food is part of the fun when cooking and making new recipes.
- Use Refined Coconut Oil – If you don’t like the taste of coconut, buy Refined Coconut Oil. It has a neutral scent and flavor.
