Homemade Magic Shell

Homemade Magic Shell is a fun topping ice cream. This copycat recipe is easy to make and uses just two ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 ¼ Cup Chocolate Chips
  • 3-4 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

Instructions

  • Put chocolate chips and 3 Tablespoons coconut oil in a microwave safe bowl.
  • Microwave on high in 20-30 second intervals mixing after each interval. It will take 1 ½-2 minutes total.
  • The chocolate should be thin enough to drizzle over ice cream. Add additional Tablespoon of coconut oil if the chocolate if needed.
  • Drizzle over ice cream. Magic Shell will harden over ice cream in 30-60 seconds.
  • Store leftovers at room temperature in a microwave safe container.

Notes

  • If the Magic Shell Hardens While Storing - Reheat in the microwave using 20 second intervals, stirring after each interval until melted.
  • Make Dairy Free Magic Shell – The Enjoy Life Brand of Chocolate Chips is dairy free.
  • Scale the Recipe Up or Down – Adjust the chocolate chips and coconut oil to make more or less Magic Shell. It’s about 3 Tablespoons per cup of chocolate chips.
  • Try Other Oils – Try Vegetable Oil or Butter if you don’t have coconut oil. I have not tried these oils but experimenting with food is part of the fun when cooking and making new recipes.
  • Use Refined Coconut Oil – If you don’t like the taste of coconut, buy Refined Coconut Oil. It has a neutral scent and flavor.
