Chick Fil A is far from gluten free but enjoying what they offer is still possible. This homemade Chick Fil A Polynesian Sauce tastes just like the restaurant. The copycat recipe makes a perfect chicken dipping sauce for nuggets, strips, or tenders but it would be great on chicken wings too!

What is Polynesian Sauce?

Chick-fil-A’s Polynesian Sauce was first introduced in 1984 alongside their honey mustard and BBQ sauce. It’s a tame sweet and sour sauce that is most popular with Chick-fil-A customers on the east coast.

Sauce Notes and Tips

Adjust the Sweet and Sour – If you find this sauce either too sweet or sour adjust the honey or vinegar up or down a little bit to find what’s best for you.

Oil the Measuring Spoon – Put a little of the oil in the measuring spoon before measuring the honey. The honey will slide off the spoon easily.

Making Your Own Saves Money – Chick-fil-A Polynesian Sauce is now sold in 16 oz. bottles at Walmart, Target, and some grocery stores for around $3.50-5.00. While the recipe below makes about a cup the recipe is easily doubled and costs about $.50-1.00.

Beet Juice is Used in Chick-fil-A’s Recipe – Chick-fil-A uses beet juice in their recipe which probably helps with its red coloring being darker than the homemade version.

Chick-fil-A Sauce Shortage – Early in 2021, Chick-fil-A began limiting the number of sauces given with their nuggets and strips. With this recipe, make as much as you want!

Exploding Polynesian Sauce – According to an article on Mashed.com, packets of unexplained busted sauces have been found in home kitchen drawers as well as full boxes of the product opened by Chick-fil-A team members. It seems to be the only sauce served at the restaurant that behaves this way.
