Jazz up your morning gluten free or traditional bagel with Veggie Cream Cheese! This easy recipe takes that creamy schmear to a whole different level….and adds a few nutrients as well!
Veggie Cream Cheese
It’s perfectly fine to buy vegetable cream cheese in the store but I find that there are never enough vegetables in it. When making your own at home, you can add as little or as much flavor as you want.
For my recipe, Use a softened brick of cream cheese or light cream cheese. I use finely grated carrot, minced red bell pepper, and green onion. Then finish it with a pinch of salt and black pepper and mix it up.
I like using a coarse microplane to get my carrot super fine. The microplane works great for grating vegetables, but also works well on garlic, chocolate, and cheeses. In fact, use the microplane for making my easy parmesan cheese crisps. You can find microplanes online HERE.
What Can You Use Veggie Cream Cheese For?
Cream cheese on bagels is great but there are other options that are just as tasty. Here are a few other uses for it beyond bagels.
- Spread it over gluten free crackers. My wife really likes Schär’s Gluten Free Table Crackers. They taste pretty close to Kraft Saltines.
- Dip gluten free pita chips into it.
- Spread some of it into celery ribs.
- Use it as a sandwich spread.
- Looking for Gluten Free Bagels? If you have Aldi’s near you, check out theirs.
How Many Calories in Cream Cheese?
Traditional cream cheese has about 49 calories per Tablespoon while Neufchatel Cheese, which most people know as light cream cheese, has about 36 calories per Tablespoon.
Homemade Veggie Cream Cheese Calories are similar to regular cream cheese since the vegetables only add a few more calories to each serving.
The next time you are looking for an easy way to embellish your cream cheese, give this vegetable cream cheese recipe a try.
