Gluten Free Green Bean Casserole on plate with fork close

Gluten Free Green Bean Casserole isn’t just a Thanksgiving side dish in my house. We like the recipe so much we make it year round. Many versions of this recipe favorite are not gluten free, but this version uses gluten free ingredients and is just as good (or better) as the gluten full casserole you remember.

Gluten Free Green Bean Casserole

Green Bean Casserole is definitely something my wife missed when she went gluten free. This Campbell’s classic side dish usually seen at Thanksgiving was on the sidelines for a while at our house.

Not anymore.  A few ingredient swaps and improvements make this recipe a favorite again. Here’s how to make it and keep it gluten free.

Where to Find the Gluten Free Ingredients for the Casserole

The gluten full ingredients in the original recipe are the Cream of Mushroom Soup and the Fried Onions. Here’s how to get rid of the gluten from the classic and make it your own.

Where to Find Gluten Free Fried Onions

Locating gluten free fried onions is challenging, depending on the time of year. I usually find them at stores like Aldi’s and Sprouts around the holidays without any problems and stock up on a couple cans.

If you have trouble finding the onions in the store here are some other ways to get that crunchy goodness.

Find Them Online – Like everything else, gluten free ingredients are easily available online. You can find Gluten Free French fried Onions HERE.

Make Your Own – Fried Shallots are similar to onions and would work well with this recipe. They’re easy to make at home. Find my easy recipe for my Fried Shallots HERE.

Use Lays Funyuns – Full disclaimer, We are not a celiac family but my wife has a high intolerance for gluten. Funyuns are NOT MARKED Gluten Free by Frito Lay but they contain not gluten ingredients in the US and my wife does not have issues when eating these. These may be a good option for that flavor and crunch the casserole has. To learn more about the ingredients in Funyuns click HERE. You can find Funyuns online HERE.

Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup

Cream of Mushroom Soup is the ingredient containing gluten in the Campbell’s version. These are two easy options for gluten free cream of mushroom soup.

Make Your Own – I love making my own Gluten Free Cream of Mushroom Soup. It’s easy to make, inexpensive, and freezable. Click HERE for the recipe.

Buy it in Stores – Wal-Mart has a canned gluten free Cream of Mushroom Soup that is usually found in their gluten free section. It is around 1.50 a can which is very affordable for a gluten free soup.

Finding gluten free Cream of Mushroom Soup online is a third option but I find it easier to make my own or pick up a can when I see it in the store.

  2. Cool, cover and refrigerate.
  3. On cooking day, remove the casserole from the refrigerator and uncover while the oven preheats.
