The egg roll is on the top of my list for favorite Asian appetizers. The deep fried, crunchy outside wrapper with meat and shredded vegetables inside along with soy sauce or duck sauce for dipping makes my mouth water. While egg rolls (and most fried foods) are a winner in my book, I don’t always want to deep fry at home or spend the time to make them from scratch. This recipe hits all the same tastes as an egg roll does. Instead of you getting an appetizer of one egg roll, this is a full meal with the addition of a side dish of rice.
Tips:
- I like ground beef the best, but pork or sausage are both tasty as well
- I usually use cabbage but if I’m running short on time it comes out well with coleslaw mix too.
- If you miss the egg roll crunch, add wonton strips, like the one’s made by Fresh Gourmet. This topping will give you what you’re looking for.
- Add Sriracha hot sauce as a topper for a spicy kick.
