Dole Whip is a frozen treat that I saw on Pinterest about 6 months ago. I had never heard about it. After first seeing it on Pinterest it now hits my feed often so I guess it wants me to share my find with all of you.Dole Whip

Dole Whip has been around for years and people that go to Disneyland and Disney World have known about it. Since Disney is involved with Dole Whip it must be good, right? After making it I have to say “yes, it’s good”. Here are some reasons why.

Why is Dole Whip Good?

·        This “soft serve” dessert is Dairy Free.

·        It only has 4 ingredients and you could get away with using just three ingredients.

·        It’s easy to make with the food processor.

·        It’s a healthy alternative to ice cream

·        I have a great 5th ingredient option that makes it especially appealing to some adults.

Kids and Dole Whip

The reasons the kids like dole whip are easy to figure out. The “soft serve” consistency of the Dole Whip makes the kids think they’re having ice cream and getting a sugar fix. The sweetness of the pineapple gives them the sugar fix they’re looking for.

You’ve been a responsible parent and are “adulting” properly by giving them a healthy ice cream like dessert. While you eat your Dole Whip, find out how you are not “adulting” properly over at my friend Sara’s site Frozen Pennies. She’ll get you straightened out on any of those issues.

Grown-Ups and Dole Whip

Since you’ve “adulted” properly with the kids, it’s time for you. The dessert is great by itself but I like my approach to “adulting” properly. After you scoop your Dole Whip into the bowl, it is extra tasty with a shot of Malibu or Spiced Rum for a Boozy Dole Whip. Now that’s “adulting”!

Mmmmmmm. A boozy Dole Whip.  That makes it feel like a vacation or a cruise. By the way, you can get Dole Whip on Disney cruises. So while you’re tipsy from your “adulting” dessert and thinking about taking a cruise, check out what Ilana has to say at Life Well Cruised. She can help you get started on those plans and has a ton of useful tips on how to do it right.

In conclusion, Disney being involved is a good thing. We’ve got a cold refreshing dessert that kids love. We’ve succeeded in “adulting” properly for part of the recipe by adding the rum option for the grownups and we’ve started to think about the next vacation. Thank you Disney.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole pineapple peeled, cut into chunks and frozen. You could also use 1 bag of frozen pineapple.
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 3-4 Tbs. Cream of Coconut, optional
  • ¾-1 Cup Water
  • Malibu or Spiced Rum, optional

Instructions

  • Put prepared fruit and Cream of Coconut into food processor
  • Pulse ingredients in food processor for about a minute scraping down bowl as needed
  • Stream some water into the food processor and continue to pulse and scrape bowl as needed
  • Repeat step three until it resembles soft serve ice cream.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

Peel the banana before freezing it.
The water amount will vary depending on the amount of pineapple and banana so don’t worry about actual ingredient amounts.
It takes about 3-5 minutes to get to get to a soft serve consistency.
You can freeze the leftovers for later. It’s not as creamy but is still just as tasty. Leave it on the counter for a few minutes to soften a little.
The cream of coconut is good for a little flavor but you won’t miss it if you leave it out……especially if you’re adding the shot of Malibu Rum!
