It’s Friday and I’m most likely having a margarita to wind down after the workweek. I keep the ingredients on hand at all times for other days, but  Friday is my go to day.

The Margarita

Margarita on the rocks

Margaritas are made all sorts of ways on menus. Frozen and on the rocks. Salted rim or not. Sometimes sour mix and sometimes not. Lime or some other flavor. When I’m out for dinner, I’ll have a margarita at a Mexican restaurant, but the sour mix is usually too sweet for me.  At Chili’s, they rave about how good their margaritas are. I can’t taste the tequila in them. Where I live, we have Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar. Their margaritas are different story. Bad Daddy’s are my favorite restaurant margaritas. The sour mix is house made so it’s not sugary sweet, they’re on the rocks, and, most importantly, I can taste the tequila. Those are three good reasons to try a margarita at Bad Daddy’s if you have one near you.

The margarita I have at home is simple to make, more affordable, and probably better tasting than that one you had during your restaurant visit. It’s also healthier for you, if that can be said about an alcoholic drink, since it doesn’t have refined sugar or artificial flavors and colors that some bottled sour mixes can contain. It’s easy to make one for yourself or a few at a time, by adjusting the ingredients accordingly. A salted rim is an option but don’t take out the blender for this version. You don’t need the extra dishes from the blender or the extra ice watering down your drink.

My Margarita Buddy

Finn Margarita

As a side note, when making your margarita, you probably won’t have the same help that I have. This is Finnigan, our 11-yr. old Shetland sheepdog. In front of him (along with my margarita) is a green gadget that we fill with canned food and pumpkin and then freeze. He gets it about once a week or so, as a treat. He has a towel on the floor and a bib on to keep him and the carpet clean. I got into the subconscious habit of making a margarita and giving him his treat.  At some point, after doing it a few times, he correlated the cocktail shaker and tequila bottle with him getting the treat. Now, as soon as the cocktail shaker and tequila hit the counter I have this guy pacing and whining letting me know not to forget his treat once my margarita is made.

TGIF and Cheers!!

Margarita Ingredients

Classic Margarita

If it’s Friday I’m most likely having a Margarita. Margaritas are good at Mexican Restaurants and even better when you make your own.
